CityClub Programs

Step behind the headlines. Meet the experts and leaders who shape the region’s agenda. Network. Get informed. Express your point of view.

Forums

CityClub forums begin with introductory information on the day’s theme. They feature experts and leaders with diverse perspectives across the political spectrum. Forums address timely issues, public policy and citizen action and conclude with audience questions. Forums are often developed as a series to provide a year-long review of topics around a central theme.

Environment & Sustainability Series

Seattle is a leader in environmental activism, entrepreneurship, education, policymaking and philanthropy. Environmental stewardship and sustainability are part and parcel of our civic consciousness, our cultural identity and, increasingly, our economic prosperity. Given the urgency of concern around climate change, CityClub is proud to announce an inaugural four-part forum series on the state of environmentalism in Puget Sound. Featuring best practices, policy questions, new research and controversies, these forums will examine energy use, water and air quality, transportation, waste and urban design.

Education Series

CityClub tracks educational issues and trends affecting early learning, K-12 schooling, higher education, workforce development, professional training and life-long learning. Forums in this series address access, funding, policy, innovation, curriculum, leadership and citizen involvement.

Founding Series

The Founding Series includes three annual forums: Year in Review held every December, Legislative Preview held every January and the CityClub Annual Meeting held each spring. Together these special forums represent CityClub’s founding focus on keeping citizens informed about current events and issues of vital concern to public policy and governance.

Global Series

This series examines how Seattle is impacted by global change and is developing as a regional and national leader in response to global initiatives from poverty to climate change, health care to philanthropy and education. We propose to examine Seattle’s existing and emerging global partnerships across government, non-profit, education and business sectors along with their public policy, economic, demographic, and cultural impacts.

Healthcare Series

What is the latest biotech research affecting medical diagnostics and practice? How does Washington State stack up in public health policy and funding? Why does this region lead the nation in incidences of autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis? How are we addressing growing gaps in health insurance for our citizens? This forum series provides an in-depth examination of vital topics in health care regionally, nationally and globally.

CEO Series

New in 2008 is a series featuring conversations with the region’s top executives.

Civic Participation Month

During Civic Participation Month, CityClub and our community partners promote a fuller spectrum of opportunity to bring leaders and experts together with the public– from education and voter preparation to volunteerism and fostering new networks of collaboration and leadership. People in our region participate at many levels in our civic life – some extensively, but some not at all.  CityClub’s goal with this project is to make opportunities easily accessible and appealing, and to encourage citizens to take the first step, or the next step, to be more engaged.

Jefferson Awards

Each Year CityClub and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer join to recognize the year’s five Jefferson Awards winners. Past winners, nominees and other community members come together to honor these remarkable citizens and their outstanding contributions at this event. The Jefferson Awards began in 1972 when Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Senator Robert Taft Jr. founded the award as a Nobel Prize for public service. The American Institute for Public Service oversees the national effort and each spring award programs are held in hundreds of American cities. One local winner goes on to become a nominee for the National Jefferson Awards presented at the U.S. Supreme Court in June. It is exciting to note that more national Jefferson Award winners have come from Washington than from any other state!

Annual Gala

CityClub’s Annual Gala is a celebration of our founding anniversary. Each spring we feature internationally recognized speakers, distinguished local leaders and decision makers.  Past Gala speakers have included Warren Buffet, Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw. The event is always engaging, entertaining, and a highlight of our year.

Members Only Events

Throughout the year CityClub offers quarterly Members Only Events. The events are held in the evening, at unique locations throughout the region, highlighting the cultural, recreational and civic jewels of our community. The Members Only Events allow members an opportunity to enjoy a unique setting and program while socializing with other members over wine and appetizers. Not yet a member? Join Now!
