This year, Seattle CityClub Premier member, PEMCO Insurance, is focusing their community work on making an impact on education, safety, and voter engagement. They approached this mission in three unique ways:
1 | Pemco Hero Academy
PEMCO partnered with The American Red Cross—another Seattle CityClub member—to present the Hero Academy. PEMCO refreshed the Red Cross Passport to Preparedness curriculum and made it more engaging and interactive for students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. More than 80 PEMCO volunteers, including their Executive team, volunteered at elementary schools in Burien, Everett, and Spokane and helped nearly 800 students!
2 | PEMCO and Supply Surge
With school season starting again, some families—especially the ones experiencing housing instability and homelessness—are burdened with worrying about how they will afford school supplies. To address this issue, PEMCO teamed up with the South Lake Union Chamber for the Supply Surge to raise funds and materials for local middle schools and high schools. They raised more than 100,000 individual supplies which helped 5,500 children at Washington MS, Denny International MS, Jane Addams MS, Franklin HS, South Lake HS, and Ingraham HS.
3 | Voter Engagement
PEMCO is taking on a unique leadership role to encourage people (employees, customers, and the community) to be more civically informed and engaged in their communities by voting in the upcoming 2018 mid-term election. The three actions/phases that they’re focusing on now thru November 6 (general election date) are Register to Vote, Be Informed, and VOTE! In alignment with this initiative, PEMCO has partnered with CityClub by sponsoring the Washington State Debate Coalition’s U.S. Senate debate at Gonzaga University in Spokane on October 30th, and are the Presenting Sponsor of our 2018 Engagement Toolkit, which guides voters through the debate-watching experience. PEMCO is also encouraging voters to celebrate their civic duties by using the hashtag #whereivote2018.
We’re proud of PEMCO’s great work and honored to count them among our Premier members. To share your organization’s stories of community impact please contact us membership@64.227.103.216—we love to hear, and share, how our members are making a difference.
