Voices are calling for local leaders and organizations to share support for Black lives.
We hear you, and we’re listening.
Seattle CityClub stands in support of those fighting for racial justice and the end of systemic discrimination and violence that for generations have denied Black people their right to equitably participate in civic life. This is why we have closed our offices on Friday, June 12, in solidarity with Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County’s call for a general strike.
Part of our civics-based mission is to provide access to information that helps people make informed decisions about critical issues. Because we heard you, we made some last-minute changes to our final Civic Cocktail of the season and invited Andre’ Taylor, founder and executive director of Not This Time!, to share his thoughts. You’ll find his words about his organization’s fight for racial justice here.
As a civics organization, we recognize that we have a role to play in bringing an end to systemic racism and injustice. We haven’t always gotten it right, but we will continue to listen and learn.
