Diverse voices in government: Senator Dhingra and local leaders discuss marginalized communities Friday at Civic Boot Camp

Who: Manka Dhingra, WA State Senator (45th District), Deputy Majority Leader of the Washington State Senate. (First Sikh legislator elected in the nation) joins Chris Roberts, Councilmember, Shoreline City Council (Member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) and Cynthia Delostrinos Johnson, Councilmember, Tukwila City Council (First Woman of Color and person of Asian descent elected to Tukwila City Council) in Seattle CityClub’s Civic Boot Camp program.

When: Tomorrow – Friday, November 6, from 1 to 2:30 pm.

What: Dhingra, Roberts and Delostrinos Johnson will discuss representation of diverse perspectives in Washington State and City Government from their lived perspectives as members of marginalized communities. How are we doing locally to represent diverse voices in government and what more needs to be done? What have the local election results shown us? Participants and speakers will be invited to join in small group breakout sessions after the panel discussion.

*Registration includes access to five pre-recorded interviews with local local leaders who advocate for LGBTQ and Immigrant rights and a workbook of resources.

Cost: Free for BIPOC community members and youth under 22; Sliding scale of $20, $40, and $75 for others.
